Born 1981 in Ibaraki prefecture, Hanawa Masayoshi is a self-taught painter who began showing his work on the streets of Tokyo around 2005. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Japan, but since participating in the Outsider Art Fair in Paris in 2017, has become particularly popular in France. The floating eyeballs are coloured turban shell lids.
